Congratulations to Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK Board of Trustees member Eddie Rivers on receiving the Sagamore of the Wabash. This is the highest honor the Governor of Indiana can bestow. It was created during Governor Ralph Gates's 1945-1949 term and continues to recognize individuals for their hard work and service to the state or to the governor. Rivers was requested to be an honoree and was chosen by Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb, while Fisher's Mayor Scott Fadness presented Rivers with the award.
Rivers was beyond excited to be recognized, saying, "It was a major surprise and honor to receive the Sagamore of the Wabash," he explained. "The surprise presentation was extra special, especially the fact that the mayor and my entire family shared the stage!"
The Sagamore of the Wabash holds a special place within the community because the term "sagamore," from Native American Tribes in the northeastern United States, is used to describe a particular member of the tribe whom the chief would trust and rely on for wisdom. Rivers' hard work in community events has led him to help his community beyond what he could have imagined.
