Congratulations to Harrison Smith and Mayar Azar, fourth-year osteopathic medical students, and Guang Xu, Ph.D., assistant professor of Biostatistics and Public Health at Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK's Tom and Julie Wood College of Osteopathic Medicine, on publishing their research, “Risky Behaviors Amongst Medical Students Within the United States,” in the MedEdPublish journal.
The study surveyed 561 medical students from 21 states, examining behaviors like binge drinking, smoking, drug use, poor diet, and psychological disorders. Results showed increased stress, anxiety, and risky behaviors as students advanced in medical school, with first-years faring better than second-, third-, and fourth-year medical students.
The researchers recommend awareness campaigns on substance use and free counseling services, as nearly half of students sought mental health support. Addressing these issues is vital to ensuring the well-being of future healthcare providers. Review their research at .
