The Clayton Family Circle of Honor Induction Dinner is always a special event, but this year is especially exciting and meaningful for more than one reason: We are celebrating our 10th anniversary of the event, hosting in our amazing new Arena and Convocation Center, and posthumously inducting Clayton Family Circle of Honor founder Joseph P. Clayton, who passed away on November 3, 2018.
Emcee Larra Overton, Fox59 anchor and local favorite, will share the stage with two other amazing honorees--Allison Melangton and Tim McGinley, so they can share their stories of how collegiate athletics translates to a professional career and community service. The event will bring together more than 500 leaders in the Indianapolis and surrounding area, Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK alumni and students, long-time supporters, and new friends of Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK.
Please join us as we salute 10 years of this special event, the incredible athletic accomplishments of Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK student-athletes, and the professional and community impact of our honorees. All proceeds support athletic scholarships. Purchase a seat, a table, or a sponsorship today!
Joe Clayton passed away on November 3, 2018, following a brief illness. Joe will be inducted into the Clayton Family Circle of Honor and a special video tribute to his contribution to Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK athletics will be part of the event program.
Joe spent his life leading and serving others in the consumer technology industry as a dedicated sales and marketing executive. He was an inspiration to his wife and family, his friends, and the thousands of people who worked with him at RCA, Thomson, Frontier, Global Crossing, Sirius, and DISH Network.
A passionate leader, hunter, and proud son of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Joe marshalled the resources of the organizations he led to improve the lives of others. His expansive career in the consumer technology industry drove the explosive growth of color television, the VCR, and digital audio and video programming by satellite. A devoted Catholic, Joe lent his support to many personal causes, always returning to his roots in the church as one source of his success in business and in life.
The Clayton Family Circle of Honor was created in part to honor, but also to inspire. Joe and his wife, Jan, agreed to lend their names to these awards because they believed in the character-building qualities associated with athletics in a university community. At Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK, the faith tradition and values are activated in many ways, including athletics. On the fields and courts of competition, student-athletes learn respect, fair play, and teamwork. These values carry over into all areas of their lives--personal relationships, careers, parenthood, and community service.
Allison Melangton is currently the senior vice president of events at Hulman Motorsports, former president of Indiana Sports Corporation, and president of the 2012 Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee. A high school and college gymnast, Melangton graduated from Colorado State University with a B.A. in Sports Administration and was working for the United States Olympic Committee when she was lured to Indianapolis by USA Gymnastics in 1983.
Longtime Purdue University athlete, alumni, and trustee, J. Timothy McGinley has distinguished himself as an astute business leader, benevolent benefactor, and fervent Boilermaker. A Purdue University basketball leading scorer, McGinley made All-Big Ten honors and earned the Ward Lambert Award for earning the highest student-athlete G.P.A. He was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 2000. A 20-year Purdue University Board of Trustees member, McGinley’s leadership contributed to successes such as 70 major facility and construction projects and the $450 million Discovery Park complex.
Professionally, this chemical engineering major was named executive vice president for finance of National Homes in 1969, co-founded Jonathon Group, a residential development and construction firm in 1973, and founded House Investments and House Investment Securities Inc. in 1978.
