FAQs about Housing

Here are some of the most common questions we receive from students, families, or supporters about living on campus at Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK.

Yes, all residence halls at Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK are air conditioned.

Doyle Hall and Drew Hall rooms may switch between heat and air conditioning based on students' preferred schedule. 

Caito-Wagner Hall, University Hall, and Clare Hall all switch from air conditioning to heat, and vice versa, as one time.  Students in these residence halls will be emailed when the flip occurs.  

Cable TV is no longer available in residence halls as of October 2023. Residential and Commuter Life is now offering a streaming service to replace cable TV. The service can be accessed anywhere on campus Wi-Fi by going to ! New movies are added each month.

Your residence hall room is not carpeted, but you may bring your own area rugs if you wish. Refer to the room dimensions on the residence hall page for sizing (all room dimensions are approximate).

Our residence halls offer wireless computer access (Wi-Fi). Please make sure your computer is set up prior to your arrival on campus to ensure your account is activated. Wi-Fi for smart TVs and/or gaming systems will need to be set up by registering the device with our IT department. In the residence halls, Caito-Wagner, Clare, Drew, Doyle, and University Halls, furniture is provided by . Each room includes one height-adjustable bed frame, a twin extra long (twin XL) mattress, desk and desk chair, clothes closet, and a dresser for each resident. Furniture MUST remain in rooms and may not be removed. There are no couches or tables in any residence hall rooms, including Drew Hall.

Caito-Wagner Hall rooms will have either two small dressers per student or one large dresser per student.

Drew Hall rooms will have wardrobes in lieu of dressers and closets.

Third floor Clare Hall rooms have build-in desks rather than stand-alone desks.

The on-campus houses and graduate apartments do not come furnished. Students must supply all furniture they wish to have in their on-campus home in these communities. 

Here is a list of items to pack and items to leave at home. If you have a roommate, be sure to talk with them to avoid bringing duplicates of shared items! If you plan to go home over breaks, we encourage you to only bring what you need until the next time you return home. Then, while at home, you can exchange current items for new items. Most commonly, students will keep clothes for warm weather before Fall or Thanksgiving Break then swap for colder weather clothes when they return home.

You can do your laundry free of charge in our residence halls, as the price for usage is included in your housing cost. Laundry rooms are located in the lowest level of each residence hall.

Because the machines can be used free of charge, we encourage students to use multiple machines rather than attempt to pack a machine full of clothes and overfill it.  Overfilling washers and dryers can lead to both clothing and machine damage.

If you notice that a washer or dryer is malfunctioning, please notify your RA or submit a work order to have it fixed. You will need to include the machine number (printed on a sticker on the machine).

Here is more information about doing laundry on campus:

  1. All residence hall washers and dryers were replaced during the summer of 2021. 
  2. Machines are high efficiency and do not need much detergent.
  3. Overfilling the machines may damage your clothes and the machine.
  4. Laundry left in the laundry rooms for more than 24 hours may be considered abandoned property and will be discarded.
  5. Every campus house has a washer and dryer. Models differ house to house.

Though it is not a requirement, it is highly recommended for you to have insurance that protects your personal belongings while living on campus. Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK is not liable for damages caused to any personal items on campus and will not reimburse students for damaged property from theft, natural disasters, facilities issues, or otherwise.

As a resident, you’re eligible to purchase coverage through GradGuard’s student renters insurance program. Marian does not receive compensation for providing this student benefit. Their preferred rate is available to you because you’re a Marian student. GradGuard’s Renters Insurance is underwritten by Markel® American Insurance Company.

  • Roommate and room assignments will go out based on when you apply for housing:
    • Applications received before May 1 will assigned before May 31.
    • Applications received before June 1 will be assigned before June 30.
    • Applications received before July 1 will be assigned before July 15.
    • Applications received after July 1 will be assigned on a rolling basis.
    • Applications for spring semester only will be assigned on a rolling basis beginning in November.
  • We will email your Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK email address with your room assignment information once you have been assigned a room. To see your roommate's information, please log into the housing portal where you applied to live on campus and click the current application period. You will then see your roommate's name and email.  
  • We encourage you to reach out to your new roommate to get acquainted before you arrive on campus, if possible.
  • If you cannot find your roommate information on the StarRez portal, please email us (housing@marian.edu).

All students should review our residence hall policies and the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities.  Students who have applied to live on campus have agreed to our policies and procedures and signed with their student ID number. We do not offer storage for student belongings other than that inside your residence hall room during your housing contract period. Items you do not need over the Thanksgiving, Winter, and Spring Breaks can be left locked in your room.  Some students and families, especially those not from the local area, may wish to have extra space for personal property. Consider off-campus storage units if you need additional storage. Items may not be left in residence halls or campus houses over Summer Break, even if you will be returning to the same space for the next academic year. All items left behind after move-out will be considered abandoned property and will be donated or thrown away. 

All housing and enrollment deposits can be paid . 

Residential students are required to submit a housing deposit before moving on to campus. This $200 deposit rolls over from one year to the next, for as long as the student lives on campus. Once a student moves off campus, the deposit is credited back to the student, pending damage fees. Housing deposits must be paid in order to be cleared for KnightQuest. Students must be KnightQuest cleared before moving onto campus.

Unfortunately, we do not have enough single rooms on campus to offer them to students who do not have a documented need for one. Single rooms are only available as a disability or medical accommodation. Medical singles may be requested by contacting the Personalized Learning Center at PLC@marian.edu. Single rooms are not available for selection during the room selection process. Students should pick a double or triple room during room selection if they have not been approved for a single. If you have already been approved for a medical single, you do not need to participate in room selection. A room that fits your accommodation will be assigned to you late in the summer. Students with approved single room accommodations for a future term who participate in room selection will not be assigned a single room. Choosing a double or triple room during room selection tells our staff that you wish to forgo your single room and live with a roommate.
