Fall Move-In Information

Living On Campus

  • All new and returning students must be registered for at least 12 credit hours for the fall semester AND must have been cleared for KnightQuest prior to or on their move-in day to be in compliance with the university housing and residence life policies.
  • You may NOT move into a campus residence hall or campus house unless you are in compliance with university policies.

Lodging in Indianapolis

If you are traveling from a distance and need lodging when visiting Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK, we recommend reserving a space at a nearby hotel. Visit www.marian.edu/lodging for more information.

Bringing Belongings to Campus

​We encourage students and families to consider bringing only their student's belongings with them and planning time once on campus to purchase needed items in the local area, like toiletries. If you plan to send a care package or letter to your student, please do your best to ensure it arrives after your student's move-in day. Move-In Assistance

If you are a student with mobility challenges and will need assistance with move-in, please contact the Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK Personalized Learning Center as soon as possible at plc@marian.edu

New student move in day is the Friday before classes begin in the fall.

Returning students are able to move in the Saturday or Sunday before classes begin in the fall, depending on if they are KnightQuest clear or not.

All students may move onto campus in the spring semester the Sunday before classes resume, after being cleared for KnightQuest.

Some athletic teams and other groups move to campus early. If you believe you qualify for an early move in date, please contact housing@marian.edu for more information.

All new freshman, transfer, re-admitted, and returning students MUST be KnightQuest cleared before they move in. Students can check their KnightQuest status by logging in to MUHUB. 

When you arrive to campus:

  1. Students who are not KnightQuest clear should start their day in Marian Hall to take care of any outstanding clearance issues.
  2. Once you are KnightQuest clear, you can pick up the key to your residence hall room or on-campus house in Marian Hall. 
  3. When you arrive at your residence hall, there will be a staff member waiting to direct you to an unloading zone (fall move-in only).
  4. You will have 15 minutes to unload your car onto the sidewalk or curb before a staff member will direct you to overflow parking close to your residence hall.
  5. After you have unloaded your vehicle, please move it to the directed overflow parking area.
  6. At this time, you may return to your residence hall and begin unpacking your belongings. Please remember to break down and recycle all cardboard boxes and other packing materials.  Any staff member can direct you to the closest dumpster.

Spring semester move-in is less involved, as most residential students will be returning to the same space rather than fully moving into a new space.

To make your move-in experience as smooth as possible, here are some tips and instructions.

  • You will not be permitted to move into your room until you have completed the KnightQuest process. You may contact knightquest@marian.edu for additional questions about the process or visit here to learn more.
  • Do not bring family pets with you.  Service animals are permitted. 
  • Please be mindful that there may be ongoing construction on campus. Detours may be required to arrive at your desired destination. Large vehicles like U-Haul trucks and trailers may be difficult to maneuver on campus.
  • While there is no limit on the size of vehicle students can bring on move-in day, most students bring no more than one carload of belongings with them. 
  • Space is limited in unloading zones. Once you have arrived at your residence hall, you will have 15 minutes to unload your belongings before being directed to overflow parking. 
  • Please note that Doyle Hall does not have an elevator, and Clare Hall only has a small service elevator that must be operated with a key. Students in Clare Hall may check out the elevator key in 30 minute periods during move-in days. University, Drew, and Caito-Wagner Halls have passenger elevators that can be used at any time by residents of those buildings.

New and transfer students will be notified about roommate and room assignments as follows:

  • Applications received before May 1, will assigned before May 31;
  • Applications received before June 1, will be assigned before June 30;
  • Applications received before July 1, will be assigned before July 15;
  • Applications received after July 1, will be assigned on a rolling basis. 
  • Applications for spring semester only will be assigned on a rolling basis beginning in November.

We will email you information that includes your residence hall room number and you may find contact information for your new roommate on the housing portal where you applied. We encourage you to reach out to your roommate to get acquainted before you arrive on campus, if possible.

Your housing assignment will be sent to your Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK email address. Please be sure to check your spam filter or junk mail folder to ensure your housing assignment information is not improperly filtered into one of these categories.

Though it is not a requirement, it is highly recommended for you to have insurance that protects your personal belongings while living on campus. Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK is not liable for damages caused to any personal items on campus and will not reimburse students for damaged property from theft, natural disasters, facilities issues, or otherwise.

As a resident, you’re eligible to purchase coverage through GradGuard’s student renters insurance program. Marian does not receive compensation for providing this student benefit. Their preferred rate is available to you because you’re a Marian student. GradGuard’s Renters Insurance is underwritten by Markel® American Insurance Company.

Claims and coverages are subject to language, limits and exclusions, and policy. Visit to get more information about their coverage and a quote.

In order to minimize the risk of damage to walls and other surfaces, painters tape and 3M Command™ products are the preferred tools for hanging items in your room. Any damage to the walls or other surfaces of the room will result in a fine. The fine amount will be determined by the type and amount of damage sustained and the expenses needed to repair the damage. Fines are added to your student bill. 

Students are welcome to customize their rooms with art, area rugs, and other personal items. Students may hang decorative items from the walls, but should refrain from hanging items from the ceiling for fire safety purposes.
